Student Mentoring

Introduction

The ESHNR is delighted to announce the start of its Student & Young Trainee Mentoring Programme.

About the programme

The ESHNR Student & Young Trainee Mentoring Programme has been created to inspire the next generation of motivated radiologists by offering an authentic insight into daily work in head and neck imaging. Many medical students and junior trainees have limited exposure to radiology during their curriculum and studies. Our initiative aims to bridge this gap by providing meaningful contact with experienced head and neck radiologists as well as young subspecialty trainees who are passionate about teaching and supporting younger colleagues on their professional journey.

What mentees can experience

Through this initiative, mentees gain a deeper understanding of the clinical relevance of radiology, the decision-making processes behind imaging, and the role of a close and effective collaboration between radiologists and their clinical teams.
Beyond diagnostic interpretation, the programme aims to highlight practical aspects such as hands-on diagnostic workflows, ultrasound and image-guided procedures, and interdisciplinary case discussions.
Depending on individual interests and mentor availability, the experience may include research opportunities and collaboration, interactive teaching sessions, or insights into innovative tools such as virtual planning and advanced imaging techniques.

Our approach to mentorship

Mentorship is about more than transferring knowledge – it is about fostering curiosity, building confidence, and supporting personal and professional growth.
Our mentors are dedicated, reliable, and committed to creating a supportive environment in which open dialogue and personalised guidance can flourish. We believe that education sparks innovation, and that early mentorship helps cultivate the skills and mindset needed for future leaders in head and neck radiology.

Who should apply

Whether you are considering a career in radiology, exploring subspecialties, or simply wish to understand the role of imaging in modern day patient care, the ESHNR mentoring programme offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow within a vibrant international community.

Join us

We warmly invite motivated students and early trainees to join our new initiative, discover the breadth of our specialty, and possibly take the first steps toward a rewarding career in head and neck radiology.
